I can't believe I'm doing this at 2:30am, when I should be sleeping. I do this because I care ... about you .. even though we've never met ... I feel you would do the same for me.
Okay, We Are Scientists kicked off their U.S. headlining tout with a gig at their home base. I've pretty much covered the band with my interview with Keith, but I realized tonight that at this early stage of their career, they remind me, in spirit (but not in sound) of Supergrass. When some think of Supergrass, they think of the innovative videos and their cheeky stage banter. They are just cool people with a wicked sense of humor. When it comes to music, they take it seriously and leave the shtick for in between songs.
That's how I feel about We Are Scientists. Their videos are silly. The cats on the album cover are memorable. Tonight's stage banter focused on today's awesome weather and joking about doing a Green Day cover. They did do a cover of The Ronnettes' "Be My Baby". But when it comes to playing, they are precise, so they put on a heck of a show. There are just no gimmicks when they play.
A big thanks to the band for getting me in. Next time, I won't be a cheap ass and I'll pony up for the $13 ticket.
I was also kidnapped and brought to ProductShop NYC's after-party for the band at Rothko. If you didn't go, you didn't miss anything. I didn't even see W.A.S. there. I thought to myself, "So this is what happens on the LES when I'm home sleeping in Jersey on Thursday night."
Here are the pictures. The Onion holiday party tomorrow, Awwww-some.

I wish I could've gone. Doh.
