Yes, it's those British gals again on this site. Rose, Gwenno and Becks took their traveling party to New York and graced us with another fine performance.
It was the same setlist as previous shows, but in case you need a remind or to lazy to scroll down:
- Don't Forget Me
- Because It's Not Love (But It's Still a Feeling)
- Why Did You Stay
- Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me
- Your Love For Me
- It Hurts To See You Dance So Well
- Tell Me What You Want
- Baby Don't Leave Me
- Really That Bad
- The Burning Ambition of Early Diuretics
- True Love Waits Patiently for a Miracle
- I Love You
- Guess Who Ran off with the Milkman?
- By My Side
- Judy
- One Night Stand
- Dirty Mind
- Pull Shapes
- ENCORE: ABC
- We Are the Pipettes
If I were the rank the four shows I've seen The Pipettes, this would be the lowest. The unpredictable New York crowd weren't up to the near block party atmosphere of Philly. I would put their U.S. debut in Brooklyn at the top because there's a sense of discovery there. A very close second would be Philly. Third would be their opening slot for Amy Winehouse. Then tonight at the bottom. Not to say it was bad, it was good, I just wished there was more activity among the crowd. Despite that, the band seem particularily animated tonight.
Not really much more to add. I've got one more Pipette post for you on Sunday night with my interview with them -- gotta end my coverage with a bang.
The bright side -- these may be the best photos I've taken. Check out this one of Rose, YOW-zer!
Smoosh stayed up past their bedtime to play those poppy tunes they are known for. Let me tell you, when that kid on drums turns about 25, she'll own all other drummers in the skill department. Previously: Smoosh played with The Postmarks at the World Music Cafe.
This was my first time at the Highline Ballroom. Good news -- the sight lines are the best. So there's not a bad place to watch the gig. The sound needs a little works, but it should be fine. Up front, I could hear vocals clearly and the sound isn't overbearing. The bad news -- it's too classy for my tastes. It's all New York club like, someplace celebs go to feel important. Hiro Ballroom is down the street and it's the same way. All the security guards where suits and it's just intimidating. I'm just a down-to-earth rock club type of guy.

Wow..Rosay looks stunning! Didn't miss much with the instore..so crowded, I could only see but a few hands from the laides during the same set as Sunday. Purchased my second ep of the week, got some signatures and had a few laughs with the girls. They are all so adorable. Great pics MS

yeah, the crowd really wasnt into it last night, were they? i was at the front, of course, and I didnt see much finger wagging on "your kisses are wasted on me". But i was telling the guy next to me, "that drummer for Smoosh is one of the most violent drummers i've seen live" and she's 12 or 13 years old?
they did rock "this modern love" though, didnt they?
