CMJ Marathon 2007 Weird Band Name List
As per tradition, I must point out the unusual and off-kilter band names performing during this year's CMJ Marathon. Please, keep your snickering to yourself.
- Care Bears on Fire: I actually was sent this CD. Like Tiny Masters of Today, it's a kid rock band, but leave the Care Bears alone. They only want to love and hug.
- Giddy-up, Helicopter: From their myspace page: giddy-up, helicopter! writes murder ballads, living room music with a front porch, LOUD, depressing quality. enjoy and grab a tissue. Really. music to masterbate to, interesting.
- Halos Were Found at the Landing Site: Nothing to do with the XBOX video game, sorry to disappoint.
- Fight Like Apes: Ape shall never kill ape.
- The Poison Control Center: As much as like the name, doesn't it get confusing when people look up the real poison control center? I should name my next band, The Center for Disease Control
- A Band Called Pain: I wouldn't mess with them.
- John Boy's Courage: Good night, John Boy.
- With Blood Comes Cleansing: No anger management issues here, huh?
- Michael Hearst's Songs for Ice Cream Trucks: I thought it was a clever band name, but it's actually music for ice cream trucks. Take that, Mr. Softee!
- Assemble Head In the Sunburst Sound: They are from San Francisco, which would explain the hippie name:
- Sex With An Angel: How do you have sex with an angel? How do you hold her close to where you are?

Hi, great collection of names. I really like Posion Control Center and Fight Like Apes. What about the Exploding F@#$ Dolls? Even though they weren't at CMJ surely there's a place on your list for them?

I agree with The Care Bears comment! Have you heard Sohodolls yet? They are a huge buzz band in the UK right now and are starting to get video play in the US. Check them out: www.sohodolls.co.uk
