No cover of "Push It," but that didn't stop the Saturday night Maxwell's crowd to push it real good. The Rosebuds are back been in town for a few area dates. I was so impressed with Ivan and Kelly's last Bowery show that it was a no brainer to catch them on the Jersey side.
The setlist:
- Hold On To This Coat
- Cemetery Lawn
- Hold Hands and Fight
- Leaves Do Fall
- Kicks in the Schoolyard
- Drunkard's Worst Nightmare
- Big Heartbreak
- When the Light's Went Dim
- Boxcar
- I Better Run
- Downtown Friends
- El Camino
- Silja Line
- Get Up, Get Out
It was kind of a crazy, fun night in Hoboken with the joint packed with people from the previous show. Once the crowd dispersed, it was time for the indie party people to claim the space.
The Rosebuds put together another smooth, lively and loose show featuring their sunny 70s disco pop tunes mixed with their indie aesthetics. Like a good live band should do, they include the crowd as much as possible to make everyone feel part of the show. They handed out lyric sheets so that everyone can sing along to "Silja Line." Also, with a little cajoling at the end, the lights were turned down and exit music was stopped for an unplanned encore.
The Rosebuds' longtime friends, The Loners, opened up for The 'Buds on their two area shows (the other was at Music Hall of B-Burg on Friday). They are a Nuggets inspired garage/blues rock duo who just plain rocked. They look and sound like that could have invented the sound. The lead singer/guitarist Eddie Taylor looks like Kurt Cobain as he would look like now. His voice has some miles to it. When I was looking up info on them, I found out that the drummer, Chris Jones, used to be part of the Raleigh punk outfit Picasso Trigger.
