I can't tell you how excited, thrilled and over-whelmed to formally announce the ...
Tickets are available now on Ticketweb.com
I'm not having a simple celebration at some rinky-dink bar. It's a full-blown line-up with 3 amazing bands and advance tickets at the best venue in the area.
Where: Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ
When: April 10th, Thursday, doors at 8pm, first band at 8:30
Who: This is the great part, check out who's playing.
The Teeth: This is truly unreal to have one of the best live acts around playing the show, especially a band hailing from my old stomping grounds of Philadelphia. I've been talking about how Philly has a great new music scene. So many interesting and exciting bands coming from the area alongside The Teeth: Dr. Dog, Man Man, The Swimmers, The A-Sides, RJD2, The Capitol Years, The Cobbs and The War on Drugs.
Besides the Philly connection, everyone I've talked to love The Teeth's music and the guys in the band. They don't phone in their performances, they are an exciting band to see live. So symbolically, this is a blog that promotes live music so it was important I find bands that just love playing live.
Even beyond the live show, The Teeth make some awesome, unique music. You can't pin them down to a particular genre, they mix a lot of 60s psychedelic pop, 70s glam, early 90s indie and rambunctious garage rock.
Right now, they are on tour with The Honorary Title before stopping over SXSW to play the Park the Van showcase.
Salt & Samovar: I've been planning this show for three months and Salt & Samovar have been in the mix the whole time. When I finally saw them live when they opened up for Kate Nash, I knew I had to keep them in the mix. They killed during their set -- a big concoction of revival gospel, country, honky-tonk and roots rocks.
They got a tremendous push when Nic Harcourt named Old Joy, New Joy as his No. 3 album of the year. You can check out their Morning Becomes Eclectic set here. Also, they'll be playing the KCRW showcase and one of the After the Jump parties during SXSW this year. They are truly one of the hardest working DIY bands in the New York scenes. With that kind of "can do" spirit, it's a pleasure to have them playing Maxwell's for the show.
La Laque: I have to credit Michael and Leah from La Laque in planting the seed to inquire about The Teeth for the show. When they mentioned them in conversation, I said to myself, "Holy shit! They would be perfect." It works out to have them kick things off because they are friendly with the other bands. Selfishly, I haven't seen live in a while, so I can finally catch-up with them.
Each of these bands represent a different side of my musical taste, so La Laque satisfies my craving for French rock and super-cool and sexy music, a la Stereolab and Serge Gainsbourg. They got to grace the cover of the CMJ New Music Report last year, so some of you visitors already know how awesome they are.
How Much: $8, tickets will go up on ticketweb.com momentarily. That's about the price of a drink at a NYC venue, so this is a great bargain.
Here's some FAQ about this extravaganza:
Why a show? I've been making up excuses for a while not to have some sort of showcase in my name, but I made it a goal of mine this year to have a show to celebrate 3 years of this site. I put a lot of time into this site when it's become more than just a passive hobby. So I think a party was in order. I started in January and I never stopped trying to pull this off.
Why Maxwell's? It's my favorite venue and it was my education into live music back in college. In my opinion, since CBGB's closed, it's the only legendary venue left in the area. You have Springsteen, Nirvana, R.E.M., Pavement, Beck, New Order, Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs all gracing the stage. I was going to have this show at Maxwell's and no where else. Any thanks begins and ends with the folks at Maxwell's, who've been 100% supportive of this endeavor. Plus they serve Lone Star beer and have great food, so please stop in for dinner before the show.
How did you choose the bands? It wasn't a matter of who I should get, it's how I should get them. I wanted to get three different bands. Like this blog, I wanted a variety of musical styles, rather then just all-male indie rock bands. I wanted great, energetic live acts. Finally, they had to be nice people, and they are. When this line-up was finalized last week, I realized that all these bands are unique in that they are their own band. They don't follow trends and are making music the way they want to.
Did you try to get Kate Nash? No, I would just set myself up for disappointment.
Any special guests? Yeah, you. Now that this show is out there, it's my job to get all you over to Maxwell's.
That's it for now. I'm going to hyping this thing for the next month. As you noticed already, the banner has changed and an official concert poster is coming.
Are you excited? I am. WOO HOO!

The Teeth are amazing live. What a great pick for the showcase. You're My Lover Now was my favorite album of last year.
