Awwwwww. Myspace bringing friends together.
A band from Stockholm, Sweden called Doctors & Dealers made their first trip to New York tonight, playing in front of me, the sound guy and two others. It happens, and yes I've seen worse. Back in the day, I was at Sine and there was me, my friend's band and I think the sound guy went to take a 30-minute whiz during the set.
In any event, I like seeing a band from overseas making their first trip to America and our fair city. They take a great expense in coming here and somebody needs to show up and give some love.
Docs & Dealers introduced themselves to me via myspace in a message, "I'm a REALLY big fan of your blog. I like x y z posts. Please add us even if you don't like the music." Well, I was humbled and lead singer Sparrow has been lending support and good-will from across the planet in my endeavors.
Their music is indicative of the indie pop scene in Stockholm -- echoing girly girl vocals among sweet natured pop melodies. It's endearing with a sense of wonderment and simplicity. It's the kind of music you would play to impress a guy or girl back in the 1950s.
While the band issticking around town tomorrow for Club NME with the Indelicates and Man on Earth , they'll be bringing their rental van to some points around the Northeast.
- Jul 17: Club NME, The Annex -- New York
- Jul 18: The Space -- Hamden, New Haven, CT
- Jul 19: Burlap and Bean -- Newton Square, Pennsylvania
- Jul 20: The Beach House -- Lansdowne, Pennsylvania
- Jul 21: World Café Live -- Philadelphia
As a side note, the band is in need of a keyboard for the NME gig. They have cash.
