The artwork, release date and track listing were all set, but the long-awaited debut album from Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jong has been aborted.
The band explains on their website:
We made the record in October last year, very soon after signing our record deal, as this is what we were required to do by our label. At that time we had done about 20 gigs, and went on our first ever tour, supporting Dizzee Rascal, in the middle of the recording process.
The album was mixed and mastered by February, but, as is often the case; the release date was pushed back a few times and ended up being scheduled for release ten months after we had made it. Although it's a good record and we're all proud of it, we know that after the amount of playing we have done since we made it, we can create a record that is much better, more exciting, more representative of our sound and generally more delightful to listen to. We feel we have learnt alot in the last ten months and that we have progressed as a band, so we want our debut album to show this.
We've already started rehearsing and practising hard for the new album and we're extremely excited about going into the recording studio. It is going to have the best songs off the original record, newly recorded, combined with new songs that we are writing as we speak. We are also going to be playing live shows in the coming months and we're really looking forward to seeing you all again! We are sorry for keeping you waiting, but we strongly believe it will be worth it.
NME streamed the album at one point and it was decent effort, but I'm all for the band wanting to try again.
In the meantime, here's their latest video, "Where Did You Go?":
