One of my stops on my Thursday CMJ excursions was the Lolita Bar on the Lower East Side for networking, free drinks and a chance to check out quirky singer-songwriter Heidi Happy. I'm pretty sure I've never seen a Swiss musician before, Heck, I don't think I've every met anyone from Switzerland.
In any event, I was impressed with guitar various. She's one of those acts like St. Vincent who relies on looping pedals to add depth to her performances. Heidi's style reminds me of my boys in Kings of Convenience.
The most obvious comparison is Feist -- that sort of vaguely foreign sounding voice that has great range and distinction. An added benefit is that she has easy going presence. She likes to smile and crack jokes between songs. She ended her set with an ode to her homeland, even playing up the Swiss stereotypes. Must be un-avoidable when your name is Heidi.
I'm checking out more of her songs online now and they are rather charming.

Thanks for writing about this Artist! After reading your post, I went to Heidi's myspace and then downloaded her album on itunes. I love it!!
Love your blog.. I'm jealous!
