I tend to stay away from rants against pathetic things like American Idol, boy bands and the McRib, but I need to point this out.
MTV sponsors a voter registration awareness campaign called Choose or Lose. They stage tours across the country in order to support voter turnout and the Democratic process. Obviously, it's aimed towards young people who tune to MTV for their culture fix. They run ads for Rock the Vote, MoveOn.org and Vote or Die between such mind-expanding programs like The Hills, My Super Sweet 16 and the Pete Wentz show, I'm a Bitch.
So when the eyes of the world were on their TVs, seeing one of the most important moment in the history of America, where we can celebrate and feel good to be an American, what did MTV do? They had a marathon of Paris Hilton's My New BFF.
Basically, they want to be seen as socially conscious and the voice of youth culture, but really they want you to watch crap. Come on, now.
Shame on you, Judy McGrath, Chairman and CEO of MTV Networks. What message are you sending?
On the other hand, the Viacom owned BET had coverage of the night.

Hear, hear!
