BBC Music Picks Artists to Watch in 2009
The taste-makers over at BBC Music expanded their annual list of Bands to Watch to 15 lip-smacking new artists. There are some obvious choices, a few "who are they" and please, please can somebody take Lady GaGa and leave her on a desert island so she never to be heard from again. I'm pretty sure she's more hype machine than person. I'm sorry, Gaga, I can't hear you over your vocal modulation covering your lack of talent.
- The Big Pink (never heard of)
- Dan Black (He's no Calvin Harris)
- VV Brown (right on, read here)
- Empire of the Sun (new project from Sleepy Jackson's Luke Steele, good stuff from what I've heard, even though it sounds like MGMT B-sides)
- Florence and the Machine (yup, she's the one)
- Frankmusik (my boy, read here)
- Kid Cudi (never heard of)
- La Roux (never heard of)
- Lady GaGa (*barf*)
- Little Boots (interesting stuff, might see her when she hits up Studio B in Feb.)
- Master Shortie (never heard of)
- Mumford & Sons (I was thinking of them for my list. They are buds with Noah & the Whale)
- Passion Pit (good guys, their CMJ show post)
- The Temper Trap (Franz Ferdinand picked them to open up a few dates on their Oz. tour)
- White Lies (my boys, NYC show post)

Your Florence and the Machine link goes to VV Brown - thanks for posting the list.
