Somebody is possessed by their own music.
That's two sold out shows this week for Ritzy and company, which only goes to show that the band has arrived. If you haven't seen them or haven't already read my interview or previous gig posts, then I don't know what to tell you. You have ample evidence and plenty of opportunities to download free music. If you're not listening to them on a regular basis by the summer then you're going to have heaping, steaming pile of FAIL in your pants.
Everybody kept on saying to me after the show, "wasn't that awesome>" And I can only say nonchalantly, "I know, I know." It's me at my most snobbish.
Anyway, Joy Formidable blew a few eardrums and minds tonight. Everything was done loud, intense and epic. If their slow songs have major fortitude. The only thing that surprises me after seeing them twice before is how Ritzy doesn't explode from how awesome she is. Next time I see her on stage, her head better explode like in Scanners after she belts out another powerful climatic song.
Nothing new to add to the band, now go forth, see them live and get blown ... away.
Next up for them is The Great Escape festival in Brighton this weekend.

I made sure to get there early to check up on Jessica and Andy of the band She Keeps Bees. Make sure they are well fed, brushing after meals and rocking their socks off. If you've seen them before, you know Jessica is first, a tremendous guitar player and soul rock singer. Second, she's a character, a self-deprecating, potty-mouth chatterbox. Maybe its stage nerves, but she's a trip. When she isn't belting out fierce southern blues rock tunes, she's making fun of her mother and people with cell phones. I love their band, their music and their performance. The two are a dirty, gritty, nasty, snarling pair of devils in ripped jeans ... or as Jessica puts it "the fat Cat Power."
More on them later, you'll see what I have in store for them.
