Another showcase during the day, another basement venue with no hint of the outside world. Welcome to CMJ kids!
The Windish showcase featured the good-looking couple of Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson known as Kisses. As you know, Jesse is also lead single of the L.A. band, Princeton. This side project with his girl has enough smooth and sunny 70s-80s disco pop tunes to keep you satisfied between Jens Lekman albums. There's retro-ness abound in tracks like Bermuda, Kisses and People Can Do The Most Amazing Things.
Their music makes me wants to put on my best smoking jacket, hold a snifter of Brandy and listen to dance mixes of Burt Bacharach. Their set had plenty of positivity and electronic beats to keep you body swaying with the songs. I just like how easily it is to slip into the feeling that Jesse and Z portray on stage. I say bring on that throwback pop feeling.
Since I like to tease Jesse, I asked him to put on his sunglasses he has hanging off his shirt. I think he looks rather dope with them on.
