What do you think he does on Bastille Day?
Anyway, here's good new music for you from UK one-man band Bastille (a.k.a. Dan Smith). He just released his debut single, Flaws, and it's wonderful little piece of D.I.Y. pop goodness. Nice voice, catchy beats, strong chorus, I think we have winner here. Rough Trade says of the song "'Flaws' demonstrates Bastille's ability to envelop his beautiful soaring vocals in simple electronic beeps and beats to create something damn close to a perfect pop song in our book."
On his Bandcamp, you can hear his ode to Laura Palmer. Is it me, or are we hearing more and more that musicians are taking inspiration from Twin Peaks?
For the video, he (or somebody with editing abilities) re-spliced scenes from Terrence Malick's debut film, Badlands. I'd like to know how they got around the copyright infringement. In any case, good choice. If you aak me, Days of Heaven is my go-to Malick film.
