Not funny, Luke stole my Facebook profile picture.
UK singer-songwriter, piano impresario and, as you can tell in that picture, major player Luke Leighfield is back with some new music for us. He's all about the D.I.Y. approach to his music making -- self-releasing and self-financing. After two-years of scrapping together, he's releasing New Season on March 26th via his own label, Got Got Need Records.
A quick synopsis on my boy Luke -- first off, he's a massive talent on piano, pounding away with joy and heartache. He gives Keane and Ben Folds a run for their money on the piano-driven power pop scale. I was big fan of his 2008 track, If You Haven't Got Anything To Say. His output is impressive, always releasing tracks, collaborations and odds & sots. More importantly, his songs can be quiet and introspective or loud and life-affirming. Finally, to further impress you, he's constantly playing gigs around the world (from the UK to China and places in-between), around 650 in five years! I'm sure he remembers every one of them.
Let's sample some of his new music, check out this six-minute winner from the new album complete with Elton John-style piano and those big power chords on "The One Thing."
