One of my favorite mix albums is done by the duo known as Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve. On the self-titled 2008 mix, they basically take the DJ Shadow Entroducing method of taking out of print, obscure and found psychedelic, funk, 60s pop and spoken word albums and masingh them together to make a new sound. The re-listening quotiant is extremely high since nobody has heard of these lost treasurse. Compare that to that con-artist Girl Talk, Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve are innovators.
Who are they? Easy enough, it's producers Erol Alkan and Richard Norris. Alkan has a few DJ podcasts that are insane with the genre bending and big beats. He also does great production work on albums from the Long Blondes, Klaxons, Kindness, Late Of The Pier and Mystery Jets. Richard Norris a veteran of the business. He was in the 90s electronica band, The Grid, worked on the soundtrack of Grosse Ponte Blank and has done endless remixes.
Now, the duo has dusted off the Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve moniker for a few new extended tracks on a big old 12" vinyl. One side is Black Noise, and it's a freak out, mind-bender. Door to Tomorrow is a new composition featuring vocals from former Gorky's Zygotic Mynci lead singer Euros Childs. You can preview both below, which will be released in full next week.

I wonder why there isn't more album art that simple and awesome any more.
