We're going to look over to Germany for your newest fix of female-fronted pop music. Boy is the name of the Hamburg-based duo consisting of Swiss-born Valeska Steiner and Germany-born Sonja Glass. They make richly-constructed pop music with all sorts of wonderful elements -- pianos, strings, hand claps and mostly importantly, heart. You can't teach heart when it comes to pop music, spothese ladies have full hearts. I'm not going to scold you for thinking of Feist when you dive into their tunes. It's right along her lines.
The duos debut album is out in the U.K. next week on the Decca label. There's no buzz here in the states, but I think once people embrace Val and Sonja's pop esthetic, they'll get a proper push. One of the songs on the album, Little Numbers, has all the makings of a hit -- bouncy, catchy and free-wheeling. The video was shot in one of the greatest cities on Earth, Barcelona.
