Hold onto your potatoes Dr. Jones because the craziest song of the summer is called "IFUCKINGLOVEYOU" by Big Black Delta, the moniker of L.A. musician Jonathan Bates. The song has been online for a year, but is finally making the rounds since Bates tours with M83. It's like a Muse song on crack -- huge operatic vocals, aggressive guitars, pounding drums and electronic horns that make the BWAAAAAHHHHHHH sound from Inception. The song is a like a repeated slap across the face while you're being chased by the zombies from 28 Days Later.
Bates, a former member of Mellowdrone, will do double duty as M83's opening act for next month's area dates that are way sold out. He had previously opened for Joy Formidable on their last U.S. tour. So if you going to Electric Factory on August 1st or Central Park SummerStage on August 8th, be sure to have your face melted off by Big Black Delta. BUT! If you are not keen on the Wild Nothing, Grimes and Diiv's free show at Pier 84 on August 9th, you can see him at Pianos.
