I get a little weepy when I listen to the latest Mara Carlyle single, "The Devil and Me". The song is extraordinarily beautiful for its angelic composition and Mara's effortless singer. Then there's the soulful background vocals against the delicate piano melody. It's taken from her second album, Floreat, which appeared on my Ten Best Albums of 2011.
The other reason I get a little emotional is because I have failed you. One of the purposes of this space is to expose you to new music that the other sites don't focus on because they follow trends and answer to sponsors. Mara Carlyle should be listen to by everyone who comes to this site. I should have written about her more. She is too great a talent for you to ignore. The outcry from you should be over-whelming for anybody in the U.S. who can get her music out here. Maybe we are just behind the times as a music-nation, or I'm just loosing my touch as a taste-maker. Le sigh.
On the hand, if she does comes popular here in the states, I'll have to disown her because it won't be cool to like her (like Florence Welch).
I'm joking, of course. Just listen to Mara on Spotify so that I can rest at night.
Here's the video for The Devil and Me:

I agree this collection is splimy gorgeous, especially the oversized pattern jumper (I, too, am inspired to knit myself one and wear it all winter-long haha)!Romanyxxp.s. I've made a little mention of a post you did a few weeks ago (which I just found out about today whilst writing on the same subject, coincidentally) on my blog if you're interested
