Tonight's post is brought to you by free beer, wine, stunning skyline views and the wonderful being that is Marina Diamandis. As I've done a few times before, I went to a meet-and-greet ... and it was glorious. Now, that the alcohol is wearing I can be a little coherent.
This is what you need to know. Despite being on a major label and being a popular personality on both sides of the Atlantic, Marina & The Diamonds is a major talent. The voice of an eagle and the presence of a superhero, Marina Diamandis owns whatever stage she graces, I got to see her tonight on top of the Mondrain Hotel in Soho and she took me right back to when I first heard her in 2008. Back then, she was stripped down on her demos to her voice and her piano. She did the same tonight, it was just her, a guitar and a piano. That's all you really need for her. Since she those days, she's developed into a pop powerhouse with big dance beats, larger-than-life vocals and some serious artistic ambition.
That translates to her new album, which finally gets its U.S. release today. Electric Heart has all those elements. Add to the proceedings is a little bit of an attitude. Primadonna has those grimey dance floor beats, while How To Be A Heartbreaker is a bat of a hell revenge tune. You can sense the wink and nudge on that tune. She performed that on Jimmy Kimmel Live last month. Video below.
And yes, I do admit, beyond the talent, she is a great beauty and whip smart. I am smitten. This is me smitten.
Even though I was transfix by her performance, Because she winked at me as she walked by me, the important thing for you is that she's playing a few more headlining dates. She toured with my peoples MS MR and not my peoples Coldplay this summer, but she has a few more days for you catch her.
