Checking in on a band I mentioned in 2011, The Revivial Hour consists of D.M. Stith (of Sufjan Stevens touring band) and John Mark Lapham (of The Earlies). They makes shifty, kaleidoscopic pop music with plenty of interesting elements. Buffalo-native Stith describes it as "pulp horror, comic drama, a dark cosmic pageant of chase sequences, monsters, spirits and explosions of blood." From the songs they have offered up, there's some serious musicianship going down. Love the strings and theatrical, emotional pop-soul on Hold Back.
The duo's debut album, Scorpio Little Devil, with be out next month in the UK.
