Over the holidays, I was in a few social situations that I'm not normally in. Let's face, I'm not in many social situations at all. Anyway, I was in a crowded sports bar, on a Saturday night, that had a cover band. Then, just last weekend, I was at a dime-a-dozen Hoboken joint that had karaoke. I did not partake. These two situations had one thing in common, the song "Valerie" by the Zutons. YES, it's the Zutons, but NOOOOOOO. The cover band, which is like krytonite for a music snob, says, "Hey, okay. Let's a do a little Amy Winehouse for you. Keep the party going." For Karaoke, the little Hoboken chickie decided to sing "Amy Winehouse for all my girlfriends, heyyyyyyyyy".
This is my problem with society. We have a world of information at our fingertips, yet we ignore simple facts. You know, I know. "Valerie" is a Zutons song. I've seen them perform it at Mercury Lounge. Yet, you tell people that it's not an Amy Winehouse's song -- she did a cover -- and they look at you like an asshole. What's a music snob to do in a blind world?
That's all. On a final note, WTF happened to the Zutons?
