You see, the F stands for Fratellis. Not Fuck ... you dirty people.
Here's the last post on Hop Farm, and I end with the day's headliner ... The Fratellis? Yeah, they are a big deal in their native land. The size and intensity of crowd increased when they took to the stage. Although, they let their intro music, "Gimme Shelter", play the whole way through. Okay, we get it, now get on stage guys!
I was an admirer of their debut, their ultra-catchy, ear-popping Costello Music. I saw their NYC debut in 2007and came away with happy thoughts. Next thing you know, their iPod ad launched their career and they were able to book large venues in the U.S. I had written them off last year when their second album, Here We Stand, landed like a huge flaming ball of utter crap. It was listless, uninspired and mediocre for a band that had "hit-maker status" written all of them.
So I found it interesting that they didn't delve into the second album until about their fifth song, which was my signt o make the long walk out of the grounds to head back to London. Anyway, the three guys play a tight set, but they seemed rather subdued. They barely said anything or moved around much -- almost just going through the motions. No matter, the crowd loved it. You do have to recognize that they make fun, sing-a-long, football-chant like choruses.
So I'm not completely going to write off the Fratellis. With some bands, they can make their best work with their third or fourth album. We'll see with these guys.
